Words and Music By Anne Stott
I keep calling on the phone I keep knocking on the door
Peering through the window I can't take it anymore The fire's burning the TV is on
The cats are purring but
Nobody's home
Now I'm trying to remember some distant time ago
Did you ever live here or was it just a show
Even then somehow I knew you'd fade away forever
An inevitable truth, my reluctant surrender
The fire's burning the TV is on
The cats are purring but
Nobody's home
Now I just drive by and wave from time to time
Consider trying harder but you've crossed by finish line
If you're back there wondering wherever did she go
Know you're always welcome on this winding road
Just turn the lights out snuff the fire
Feed the cats and lock the door
There's a life we're promised just waiting to be born
The fire's burning the TV is on
The cats are purring but
Nobody's home
